Refugees In Limbo In Nauru: Carolyne Lima's Story

The Republic of Nauru is a small island country in Micronesia by the South Pacific Ocean. In the past two decades, it has become the dumping ground for migrants who seek asylum in Australia arriving via boat or other means. Many of the refugees are warehoused in the Nauru Regional Processing Centre, an offshore Australian immigration detention facility. There are allegations that the center has only basic health facility and people accused of no crime are kept in appalling conditions in arbitrary and indefinite detention. The United Nations, other concerned nations, and different rights groups including Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch, have documented the abuse and neglect happening under the illegal detention.
